City Unveils Allianz Amphitheater

Richmond, VA—Earlier today, the City of Richmond proudly celebrated a milestone moment with the official unveiling of the Allianz Amphitheater at Riverfront, a state-of-the-art music venue poised to become a cornerstone of entertainment, culture, and economic vitality for the City and for the region.
“Richmond is an amazing city with so much going for it, but for years, artists would bypass it for other cities because we did not have the venue necessary to attract household names,” said Richmond Mayor Danny Avula. “With this new venue, Richmond is truly a must stop city for the biggest headliners. It is sure to strengthen our local economy in a very real, impactful way.”
The open-air Amphitheater is expected to generate millions in annual economic impact and will serve as a platform for both national acts and local talent. Beyond concerts, it will host seasonal festivals, civic events, and showcase Richmond’s already thriving arts and cultural communities.
This amphitheater is a massive leap forward in the City’s efforts to activate the riverfront and will be yet another cultural hub sure to attract visitors from across the state, region, and country,” said Councilwoman Ellen Robertson, whose district includes the waterfront property. “Travelers are already planning entire weekends around the shows here. That means more hotel stays, more shopping, more dining – all of which supports our City’s continued growth.”
The Allianz Amphitheater project was realized through a model public-private partnership between the City of Richmond, Live Nation Entertainment, Allianz, Red Light Management, and local development and community partners.
“This kind of partnership is what effective city-building looks like” said City Councilwoman Stephanie Lynch. “Richmond’s local businesses are the soul of the City, and the Allianz Amphitheater will amplify their reach. From food trucks to hotels to local breweries and restaurants, this venue will lift everyone.”
Following the event’s official remarks, the venue hosted its honorary first performance from the Advanced Music Ensemble at St. Andrew’s School in Oregon Hill. The Amphitheater’s summer season will kick off later this evening with its Sunset Soundcheck, featuring food and drink and performances by Richmond’s own Andy Thomas, Deau Eyes, and Prabir Trio.
